Well hello there. It's been a while! Life has been a whirlwind for me these last couple of years and I have fallen away from my writing, so I thought I'd write a post to catch up. After working full time really, really hard, I graduated college with an associates in human services. That degree landed me a job with an amazing, women owned organization where I get to do street outreach for individuals experiencing homelessness. I have seen and learned so much from these experiences that I could write a novel about it. More reflections on that will come in future blogs, I'm sure.
In October I got married to an amazing man, next to a river, (in a black wedding dress of course) with over 100 of our friends joining us. Everything about our wedding was incredible and the love that we received from the people in our circle was profoundly touching. My daughter was my maid of honor and words cannot express the gratitude I have for her being such a big part of our day.
Following that, I moved out of the house I lived in for over 15 years, that my daughter grew up in, for her and her boyfriend to start a new chapter there. That journey was an emotional roller coaster of joy, grief, excitement, nostalgia and curiosity. I moved to a beautiful house in the country, about an hour away from the city I've come to know and love. While my goal was always to leave, (I'm definitely a country girl at heart) there was some grief at leaving Milwaukee behind, too.
Life is different today. So am I.
My life is still busy, but today it doesn't feel quite so hectic. Today I get to look back occasionally at the progress I've made. I get to take the time to be mindful. To experience the moment as it's happening. I spend my mornings in meditation, in silence and gratitude. I spend my days in service to others, and my nights are filled with the joy and comfort of a happy marriage. Now that the dust has settled a bit and I feel like I can breathe again, I'm filled with the quiet wonder of "what's next'. And I can't wait to see.
